Lettuce Prices by City Put North Jackson at $11.43

Lettuce prices by city pointed to two different leaders on July 20. North Jackson had the highest price at $11.43, while Westside Jacksonville had risen fastest, from $4.44 to $7.47.

Prices are standardized to one lettuce item in each city. Across the 12 cities with prices on both June 13 and July 20, every July 20 price was higher.

The ranking separates speed from price level: Westside Jacksonville made the largest jump without becoming the most expensive city, while North Jackson had the highest price on both dates. Compare each city’s July 20 price with its 37-day change.

Lettuce prices by city separated speed from rank

Westside Jacksonville rose about 68%, from $4.44 to $7.47. It started third-lowest in the June 13 ranking and finished fourth-highest on July 20, still nearly $4 below North Jackson.

North Jackson moved from $8.79 to $11.43, or about 30%. It ranked highest on both dates even though Westside Jacksonville’s increase was more than twice as fast.

The price that rose fastest did not become the priciest. That is the distinction the full ranking makes visible.

Eleven July 20 prices finished at $7.58 or less

Clayton and East St. Louis shared the next-highest July 20 price at $7.58, with Westside Jacksonville just behind at $7.47. The remaining eight cities ranged from $4.70 in Los Angeles’s Mid-City to $6.80 in New York’s Ridgewood/Glendale.

That left North Jackson $3.85 above Clayton and East St. Louis and about 51% higher. Its price was $6.73 above Los Angeles.

Prices rose at different speeds from June 13 to July 20

The 12-city average moved from $5.23 to $6.61, an increase of about 26% from June 13 to July 20. Seattle’s Rainier Valley and West San Antonio had the smallest changes between those dates, both about 8%; the other cities rose between about 18% and 68%.

The two comparison dates frame a period of uneven movement. North Jackson led on June 13 and July 20, while East St. Louis briefly moved ahead on July 19.

The 37-day change left every city higher, with gains ranging from about 8% to 68%. The series will show whether that broad rise continues or reverses.
